OK so you missed, a MISS has been called and you have been put back.
The last thing you should do now is repeat the exercise of calculating the escape angle. You missed before, so what makes you think that you will do better the second time.

Here is the procedure:

1) Before you try your escape the first time, make sure that yo know EXACTLY where the balls are.
2) Calculate the angle.
3) While you are addressing the cue ball, before you launch it, lift your eyes beyond the table and find the spot beyond where your cue is pointing. It may be a spot on the wall, a picture hanging there, a beer bottle sitting on a table, etc.
4) Try your escape. If you missed, make a note of what side you missed on and by how much.
5) After the balls have been replaced EXACTLY where they were, address the cue ball exactly as before, aiming at that spot beyond the table that you marked before.
6) If you launch along this line, you know you will miss, on what side and by how much. So now, make your adjustments. You should hit the object ball now, or at least get MUCH closer.
